Resumen

In the current context of neoliberal globalism, the dominant model of modern liberal citizenshipwhere political identity and membership are consistent with the country-, it appears increasingly unwilling to resolve the contradictions created by mass migration worldwide. This critical situation on traditional forms of social subjects dialogue with the State has facilitated the development in marginalized social groups of active citizenship and expanding demands of social and political rights beyond the nation-state.\nOrganized Mexican migrants in the United States have transformed the concept of active\npolitical citizenship, using it as an engine of struggle to improve living conditions in the country of origin and destination, thereby demonstrating that the condition "transnational" requires an arquitecture of a new kind of citizenship.\nIn this research we show from a critical and comparative understanding of the active\ncitizenship model constructed collectively by migrants from Zacatecas and Oaxaca through their transnational practices, that there is a variability of patterns on binational civic commitment which mark the differences and similarities in the path of construction of this significant and historical social process.\nThe results indicate that the level of social praxis of migrant organizations warn us of\npractices targeted at unique nuances of a base transnationalism, where the political dimension is key in understanding of the modes of social, economic, cultural and political participation of the migrants in their countries of origin and destination. These migrant organizations really representby dissimilar or similar routes-a privileged space for the exercise of citizenship in transnational migration conditions, which are paradigmatic examples of transnational civil society that impact the same in the social and political development of transnational communities, and in strengthening democracy and democratic institutions in both Mexico and the United States through their input on\nissues such as citizenship rights, human rights, and the exercise of transparency and accountability in public life.
