Resumen

Migration is a socio-economic phenomenon that affects States due to a lack of preparation and resources to assume the weight of migratory flows, as happened in Ecuador, when the Venezuelan migratory waves generated by a strong economic crisis overtook the State is capacity to deal with a phenomenon of this magnitude. In light of this, the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) was necessary, which identified the need to improve four priority areas of intervention to protect migrants integrally: The production and dissemination of data, Capacity and coordination, Direct assistance and vulnerability, and Socio-economic integration. This research on IOM is participation in Ecuador during 2018 and 2019, shows that international organizations can play a fundamental role in reducing the problems of the international system, such as migration, by complementing and accompanying State actions and cooperating with governments to reduce the negative impacts generated by this phenomenon.
