ABSTRACTThis article addresses the relationship between inmigration, as a determining factor in population growth in two Colombian municipalities, and the river bank as urban expansion territories or as unplanned solution to the problem of land ownership for housing projects for poor migrants and displaced communities. Specifically, the paper reports research findings related primarily with the migration of population to the Río de Oro round in urban areas of the municipalities of Bucaramanga and Girón, in the period between 1960 and 1990.Key words: internal migration, poor housing, flood.
