Bioética, salud pública y educación para la salud

Resumen

We are very concerned about teaching bioethics and about the best methodologies to get to convey knowledge, attitudes and values, but we have not sufficiently reflect on the importance of ethical values in health education, and on the teaching of values, whose educators must be the professionals themselves. We will first review the problem of education, in general, and its situation in Latin America. Human resources, health professionals’ formation and education, among others, are essential to a sustainable social development. The importance of health prevention and health promotion, as a duty to be performed by all health professionals, especially at primary health care, has often been stated. Unity between health prevention and education, together with ethical principles inspiring health education, is crucial.
