Resumen

The role of language in the confi guration of European migration: trends and disagreements. The main purpose of this article is to describe and analyze the role of language in the formation and regulation of migration fl ows in Europe and, more specifi cally, in the European Union. In order to do this, it addresses this issue from two different perspectives: that of the immigrant himself and that of the states receiving immigration. On this basis, the text tries to describe the political, economic and social changes that have contributed to make language a relevant instrument in the management and distribution of immigration within the EU. Finally, it examines how the combination of both approaches has led to the emergence of national and supranational sociolinguistic integration policies.
