Resumen

The concepts of enabling and empowerment followed the evolution of Medicine and assume greater prominence in Primary Health Care. The European definition of General Practice / Family Medicine integrates these concepts into the person-centred care core competency. The Health Promotion Glossary defines empowerment as a process through which people gain greater control over decisions and actions affecting their health. Enabling is defined as the collaboration with individuals or groups to empower them.
