Global problems go beyond the scope of a geographic region, such as loss of biodiversity, climate change, biomedical research, pandemics and infectious diseases, or patents.Their devastating effects on humanity, such as social inequality in health, particularly affect vulnerable groups.Diplomacy and science interact in making informed decisions at the supranational, national, and local levels.Reviewing the concept of Science Diplomacy, with an emphasis on health diplomacy, explores its usefulness as an instrument for global governance.Complex problems go beyond the national framework, while creating local opportunities in the face of global challenges.The precautionary principle counteracts the dangers posed by technological developments in the face of the alleged neutrality of science, while deontology identifies and avoids conflicts of interest.Avoid pseudo-nationalism (scientific protectionism) and renew leadership in the service of a new world order where scientific networks or structures act with integrity facilitates the promotion of human rights.The recent COVID-19 pandemic leaves lessons for history and shows some challenges for the future.
