Resumen

This study examines how Haitian and Venezuelan communities have reconfigured public spaces in the Desarrollo Urbano Quetzalcóatl and Degollado neighborhoods of Iztapalapa as a result of recent migration flows. The work is grounded in the concepts of border externalization and internalization, which help explain how geopolitical boundaries are relocated and adapted within urban receiving environments. A qualitative approach was employed, based on participant observation, interviews, and spatial analysis of commercial and public areas. The results show that, through activities such as selling traditional products, migrants have modified markets and commercial dynamics, with externalization reflected in the visibility of national identities, while internalization processes manifest in phenomena of discrimination and marginalization. Furthermore, the support networks established contribute to new forms of belonging. The study concludes that migration transforms economic and social relations, generating a symbolic border that is constantly negotiated within the urban space.
