Las mujeres en las ciencias de la salud

Resumen
This work has been two-fold. On the one hand, it offers a general overview of the women’s presence in the health sciences, a traditionally male-dominant profession. From Agnodice, a pioneering midwife and a precedent for women in medicine in general, along the history women had to struggle against the laws forbidding them to get into a world out of their reach, both from an academic and professional standpoint. On the other hand, this work include some women’s contributions to the progress in medicine, which has resulted in the awarding of several Nobel prizes and in the growth of the international medical lexicon through the creation of eponyms or terms built on proper names. Both facts have highlighted the importance of the work carried out by women in the world of science.
