Resumen
The aim of this work is to examine the role of the United EvangelistChurch (Iglesia Evangelista Unida: IEU) as an indigenouschurch that, in these times, represents the existence of the TobaIndians. Created in the Region called El Chaco, in the middleof the 20th Century, this church’s organizations have become aspace that helps to express and reproduce the identity of theTobas as an indigenous Nation. This process not only occursin their traditional region of origin, but also in the urban placesthey have migrated to, and symbolically occupied. Nowadays, thecult’s dynamics, and IEU’s annual meetings, evidence the religiousimportance of this church. These two factors also act asan expression of the Tobas’ identity, and therefore have a politicalsignificance.
