Intento suicida del anciano en un área de salud

Resumen

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, de corte transversal, en el área de salud urbana atendida por los Policlínicos Docentes Reina y Van Troi, municipio Centro Habana, provincia Ciudad de La Habana, con el propósito de identificar características psicosociales y sociodemográficas importantes en los ancianos que realizaron intento suicida en el quinquenio 1993-1997. La muestra estuvo conformada por los 20 ancianos dispensarizados por tal motivo, residentes permanentes del área y que no presentaron déficit intelectual, a los cuales se les aplicó el instrumento confeccionado al efecto: La entrevista Semiestructurada sobre Intento Suicida. Los principales resultados fueron: intentaron suicidarse básicamente por conflictos familiares, enfermedades físicas invalidantes y sentimientos de soledad; la mayoría tenía, previo al intento, red de apoyo social de tipo formal-informal y percibida de calidad; el sentimiento de desesperanza, el síndrome depresivo y los antecedentes personales de suicidio fueron los principales factores de riesgo que antecedieron al hecho.<br>A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out at the urban health area served by the "Reina" and "Van Troi" Teaching Polyclinics, in Centro Habana municipality. Havana City province, aimed at identifying psychosocial and sociodemographic characteristics that are important for those for those elderly who attempted suicide between 1993 and 1997. The sample included 20 aged persons that were classified for that reason and who were permanent residents in that area and had no intellectual deficit. The semistructured interview on suicide attempt was used. According to the results, these people attempted suicide due basically to family conflicts, physical disabling diseases and loneliness. Most of them before the suicide attempt had good quality formal and informal social support. The feeling of dispair, the depressive syndrome and the personal history of suicide were the mein risk factors that preceded the event.
