Resumen

This article follows an ongoing doctoral thesis which investigates adults who migrated to the United States (US) to do a doctorate (PhD) or a postdoctoral fellowship in exact and natural sciences and returned to Argentina. It aims to reflect on the relevance of neoclassical theory; particularly, it analyzes differentials in wage between countries and the idea of isolated individual actors. A qualitative methodological strategy was implemented; aiming to contribute to the field of studies, focused on quantifying these flows. Thirty semi-structured interviews were conducted. Twenty-five interviews were conducted with actors who had the described experience, three with people with the same education level, but with other migratory experiences in order to reflect on those movements and two with key informants, experts in the subject. The final reflections illuminate the importance of considering multiple dimensions and levels of analysis of this phenomenon to promote a better understanding and definition of proposals.
