In this study the gender differentials in the practice of physical and sports activity of the students of the Central University of Ecuador are analysed. The methodology is qualitative with an interpretative approach. The data collection technique is an interview that allows you to understand the problem from the perspective of its protagonists. The informants are 300 students from all areas of study of the Central University of Ecuador. In the data processing, the Aquad 6 computer program is used, which allows the analysis of the narratives through categories and codes. The results show that differences in the practice of physical and sports activity of the participants: men outperform women; the most practiced sports are those of group competition; the main motivations for the practice of physical and sports activity are health and satisfaction; The major cause of disaffection towards physical activity is the lack of time due to university studies and finally, the student believes that there are gender stereotypes in the practice of physical activity.
