Resumen

The aim of the following thesis is to study the impact and effects of the male migration to the U.S., on the people who remain in the communities of origin. International migration, studied from the perspective of transnationalism and from the gender perspective, allows us to discover other factors that would otherwise remain unknown such as: the sexual division of labor, unequal gender relations and male dominance, among others. Thus, this thesis wishes to reveal what happens with the women, wives of the immigrants, during the period of absence of the men, focusing on discovering if migration generates a permanent change in the women?s habitus.
