Resumen

Summary Recent Peruvian migration constitutes one of the most significant migratory events in the City of Buenos Aires during the last decade. The general purpose of this study is to contribute to the knowledge on the evolution and characteristics of Peruvian migration to Buenos Aires City. Peruvian migrant stock grew almost ten times in the 90's, and Peruvian net migration was the largest. This migration that resulted from both political-institutional and economic forces in Peru and the attraction engendered by an overvalued Peso in Argentina, has several specific traits such as: an over-representation of women, a relatively small proportion of children and adolescents, high levels of formal education, a significant geographical concentration and a large portion of undocumented migrants. The study also deals with motives to migrate finding that the predominant motives are economic and political.
