Resumen
The year 2022 marked a turning point in the digitalization of society with the public release of ChatGPT. Since then, the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (ai) and generative artificial intelligence (Genai) has begun reshaping a wide range of social and individual activities. The widespread adoption of these innovations extends across productive activities, social interactions, everyday life, and even the most private aspects of human experience. This process reflects a form of technological Darwinism driven by multinational technology corporations and their intermediaries, who promote adaptation to these innovations as an imperative. aiimplementation is increasingly encouraged across practically every domain, with its economic benefits—particularly those derived from automating apparently repetitive or routine human activities—frequently emphasized. Yet the issue now extends well beyond process automation, since the accumulated body of digitized knowledge is being used to power algorithms that function as agents capable not only of generating new content but also of making decisions. We must develop institutions and governance mechanisms capable of overseeing these technologies. In our context, establishing governance for the use of ai in education, research, and scholarly publishing is particularly urgent. Consequently, Innovar has been working to develop a policy governing the use of ai by both authors and reviewers. We trust that our community will recognize both the importance and the urgency of implementing this policy as we face the challenges and risks posed by a world increasingly shaped by algorithms serving the interests of multinational corporations and multimillionaires
