Migración, territorio e identidad cultural: construcciónde "lugares bolivianos" en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires

Resumen

This article analyses the sociogeographic behaviour of Bolivian migrants settled in the southern part of the city of Buenos Aires. According to the conception of humanistic geography, it is due to cultural strategies stemming from their ethnocultural identity that Bolivians tend to cluster to form their own “spaces”. The article attempts to show the experience of emigrants in the global city, through a series of qualitative methodologies, amongst which the method of biographies with deep interviews stands out. The residential patterns of the enclave are explained by the socioethnic cohesion which ends up in territorial exclusion. International migration always keeps what is “there” in “here”, which acts as a shared premise. It is also confirmed here the power of the ethnic identity as reactive to globalization.
