La investigación tecnológica básica: ¿ciencia pública o ciencia privada?

Resumen

The paper presents an experience of research collaboration between a Mexican firm and various public research centers in Mexico. It is a case of basic technological research, that is, research on technologies which can be appropriated by a firm but need quite sophisticated research on the materials that are involved. With this example the authors propose to renew the study of research-firms relations. They will show that the classic distinction between public and private knowkledge is of little use in order to understand how a knowledge that needs frontier research and that is both empirical and practical in nature is generated and diffused. Public science is synonymous of an active and structured scientific community.
