Resumen

Introduction. From a linguistic analysis of texts, this
\narticle treats several consideration and analyzes
\nabout intertextuality. Objective: Describe the kinds
\nof quotes, their communicative functions and the
\nverbs used to report in five scientific articles about
\nsocial and human sciences, published on an indexed
\nmagazine, and using the Swales moves. Materials
\nand methods. The methodology used is qualitative,
\nbased on textual linguistics, the especialized speech
\nand science rhetorics. Results. The results show
\nthat most of the quotes in the corpus analyzed
\nare indirect. This could be an indicator of the fact
\nthat writers, concerning intertextuality, focus on the
\ninterpretative work of paraphrasing, the abstract and
\nthe generalization, instead of literal transposition or
\ndirect quoting. As for the verbs used to report, speech
\nverbs are more recurrent (69 %) in comparison to
\nresearch vebs (28 %) and coginitive verbs (3 %).
\nConclusions. It can be said that quoting not only is
\nincluding a text about the prior knowledge of other
\ntexts based on bibliographical rules, but a central
\ncharacteristic of science. This practice, anyway, is
\nnot a guarantee of scientific value, as it is a rhetorical
\nstrategy used to guide and to achieve the objective
\nof the author´s speech.
