Resumen
This article makes a reflection of studies on migration from Valle del Mezquital, located in the Mexican state of Hidalgo, to EEUU. It aims at making visible the importance of this region in states migration process and the consequent impacts on the local (indigenous) communities and their form of organization. This process has not been harmonic but in contrast on the local level generated conflicts concerning gender relations, equity and power relations. In this vein we put emphasis on the migrants´ ethnic character and on the consequences this characteristic has got in the places of origin and of arrival. Finally parting from our own perspective we highlight that Valle del Mezquital is a complex and heterogeneous social space with contrasting developments an a migration pattern that is clearly distinct from those prevailing in other indigenous regions of Mexico.
