Migración y ciudadanía: la experiencia haitiana en Porto Alegre, Brasil

Resumen

This paper aims to discuss the dynamics involving Haitian migrants residing in Porto Alegre and their struggle to inhabit the city, relating the engendering of subjectivities and the conception of citizenship to the organization of postcolonial Global South cities, based on the neoliberal logic of property. We seek to understand the role of urban policies in this process, highlighting resistances that emerge from the relations between migrants from a racialized migration and Brazilian cities. As a connecting thread, the episode of construction and removal of the territory called Ocupação Progresso, is explored.
