Resumen
Migration is an issue widely addressed by the media in the north zone, given the border dynamics of the provinces of Imbabura and Carchi, which border Colombia. This article seeks to de-construct the journalistic discourse that predominates in this part of the country and the possible consequences that are being generated from the formation of stereotypes that stigmatize the population groups denominated minorities and that are at a disadvantage within the society. Such is the case of citizens who are in immigration status, who have moved to Ecuador for various reasons. With the use of critical discourse analysis, a research methodology, we try to elucidate the approaches and approaches that conventional journalism uses to construct the news about migration and its repercussions on the collective imaginary. The corpus analyzed focuses on the contents of the newspapers El Norte, La Hora, El ComercioandEl Telegrafo, in their sections intended to cover the Sierra Norte region.
