Resumen

Migratory flows between Argentina and Belgium at the beginning of the 20th century encouraged the formation of a transnational visual space in anarchist periodicals. This paper reconstructs the assimilation of Belgian artists Masereel and Daenens’ graphic work in the frame of weekly supplement to La Protesta, between 1922 and 1926. For this purpose, the reception conditions of Buenos Aires cultural and artistic panorama are characterized, the graphic sources are identified and the particularities of the thematic-iconographic, stylistic and genre assimilation are analysed on the basis of three motives, namely the jail, the martyr and the war. This research is based on transnational approach in historical studies, formal, iconographic analysis and archive work. In sum, this article sheds light on a marginal episode in the study of Latin-American graphic art and the spasmodic formation of a transatlantic modernism in the context of anarchist visual culture
