Resumen

The older adult population is constantly increasing. Therefore, it is predicted that about a quarter of Mexico’s population will be elderly in 2050. This will increase the demand for medical services related to physical and mental health. The objective of this study was to compare the depression levels in older adults from the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) and Servicios de Salud de Zacatecas (SSZ). The study was observational and comparative among elderly aged 60 or older. The sample size comprised 594 older adults. The women of the IMSS clinic observed the highest proportion of depression. The same trend was observed in the SSZ clinic. This study observed that the presence of three or more pathologies influenced the depression levels
