Public policies proposals for the deployment of electric vehicles in ecuador

Resumen
With the spread of Electric Vehicles (EV) in most OECD countries, there are already lessons to be learned about the mechanisms that allow a successful adoption of low carbon technologies. The time has come to think about what are the challenges of this transition in low income economies that do not have the same meanings to encourage diffusion of a costly technology. Therefore it is important to look beyond what has been done and look closely at the opportunities that EV and Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEV) in general can generate for sustainable growth. In Ecuador the geographical, energy and mobility are favorable for the introduction of PEV in the market. Nevertheless as it has been seen in past efforts, there is a need to build an adapted policy to break many locks for the adoption of PEV. In this paper, from a public policy perspective acting on the energy and automotive sector, the actions that can be taken are described in order to develop an electric mobility in Ecuador.
