Resumen
This article aimed to carry out an integrative review of public policies on labor and income, focusing on their influence on the health and quality of life of older workers in Brazil. Scientific articles published between 2003 and 2023 were analyzed, in Portuguese, in the Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Journal Portal of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel and Virtual Health Library databases. Studies that did not contribute with analyses, reflections or criticisms relevant to the proposed study were excluded. Of the 116 studies surveyed, 23 were included in the review. The data analyzed revealed that the elderly population in Brazil is heterogeneous and demands specific public policies not only related to retirement, but also to work and income. Despite the low educational level, the elderly have a vast experience and knowledge. To improve this situation, initiatives such as training programs and increased schooling are necessary. Public policies aimed at the work and income of the elderly must address age discrimination, flexibility in retirement, training programs, support for entrepreneurship among the elderly, and tax incentives for companies that employ this age group. The implementation of these measures could significantly improve the working conditions, income, and quality of life of the elderly.
