Migración por amor: La paradoja del “machismo” intercultural en matrimonios etariamente hipógamos con superioridad de mujeres mexicanas

This paper is about marriages, in which the woman is Mexican and the man is of another nationality. Through an ethnographic methodology, the sociodemographic composition of this type of couples is described, as well as the cultural dynamics within their families. The research was limited to marriages in which the woman was at least one year older than her partner. It was found that, in these couples, the woman almost always emigrates from Mexico to her husband´s country. This migratory movement means a cultural adjustment in a new country for her. This is an exploratory study that attempts to understand the hegemony and cultural dynamics in these civil unions. A qualitative and virtual methodology was used to get to know the phenomenon, for which we contacted thirty five hypogamous intercultural couples.
