Social mobility is a sociological concept very little explored by historians. This concept, as well proposes Peter Burke, it implies three large veins of reflection for historical practice, namely the distinctions between upward and downward social mobility; intra-generational and intergenerational; and the third between individual mobility and group. Within the theme of migration these concepts have not been analyzed comparatively. Hence it is very attractive propose research that historically address. The aim of this paper is to initiate the discussion of this concept applied to migration analysis through a theoretical document review about him and from the experience of several communities work in high intensity and migratory tradition. In the three sections it contains a general context of the US-Mexico migration explores the link between history and social mobility and as worked this concept in general, historically and particularly on immigration. And from that literature exploring propose some avenues of research. It is only exploratory, and is the first part of a wider project to respect.
