Resumen
This research studies the relation between motivation, satisfaction and mental health of the workers in the Gig Economy is studied. A database was built on the responses of home delivery workers in Madrid: i) Correos employees (control group); riders with a contract; iii) autonomous riders, and iv) Amazon Flex distributors. The method used is the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to study motivation and satisfaction, and the Hierarquical Analysis Process (AHP) to assess mental health. The results indicate that: i) the higher the motivation and satisfaction, the better mental health (especially manifested in the group 1, made up mainly of Correos employees – control group), and ii) the lower motivation and satisfaction, the worse mental health (especially manifested in the groups 2, 3 and 4, made up of riders and Amazon Flex workers). This research is a diagnosis, a first step from which to develop strategies to enhance motivation and satisfaction, as well as mechanisms to anticipate mental health problems. For this reason, it is necessary to continue the study from Psychology, about what happens in the process experienced of employees with more unstable working conditions. The results confirm the emotional volatility to which this type of employee is subject.
