Resumen
The following research aims to investigate the gallada guajuirena´s process of migration to the city of Bogota. This investigation will also explore how this migration has impacted the day to day experiencies and practices of the gallada guajuirena population settled in the Usme region in Bogota. This research project was completed as a result of the strong relationships I was able to form with “black” guajuirenas families living and working in the south of Bogota. As a result of these strong relationships the gallada included me in ways that enabled me to understand the community more deeply. I was able to learn the culture from the inside rather than as an outsider looking in. As a result of the etnography I practised in Usme, I was able to clearly observe and understand that the gallada people are a social network with a foundation of common origins. This research highlights some of the changes that the gallada popluation have experinced as a result of living in Bogota. These changes include the impact of interacting and engaging with different demographics already populating the city, the relationships they establish within their own community living in Bogota and finally the connection and communication they have with their community still living in San Antonio de Guajui, Cauca. These changes to the gallada social network, their logic and their culture have been transformed by the processes of the global economy, urbanization of the city and various multicultural legislation.
