Resumen
Although the phenomenon of migration in Ecuador is not new, there is a recent concern about the situation of children of migrants who stay at home while one or both parents have migrated. In this prospective study ex post facto we have discussed some of the psychosocial and educational potential impacts that may occur in children. To do this we compared the responses of a questionnaire designed for this purpose in a group of children of migrants with another group whose parents had not migrated. Only significant differences were found in 4 of the 28 survey items. We have also carried out a comparative analysis within the group of children of migrants about how they live their parent’s migration process (overall assessment, personal influence and frequency of contact). Best ratings were found when those who migrate are both parents and there is communication within the family. Finally warns about the presence of stigmatizing speeches against this group.
