Resumen
This essay outlines five schools of\necological thought in the social sciences:\n(1) mainstream sustainable\ndevelopment, which corresponds\nwith the strategy delineated in the\nBrundtland Report and Agenda 21;\n(2) environmental economics, which\nrepresents an effort to incorporate\necological considerations into neoclassical\neconomic theory; (3) ecological\neconomics, which includes\nan analysis of energy flows and\npoints towards the limitations of\nenvironmental economics; (4) political\necology, which seeks to analyze\nthe complex socioeconomic dynamic\nbehind environmental problems,\nfocusing on power relations between\ndifferent actors and social groups; and (5) agroecology, which seeks to\nconserve and develop the positive\naspects of traditional peasant production.\nThe objective is to construct\na map in order to help guide those\nwho are interested in exploring environmental\nissues through social scientific\nlenses.
