Resumen
The genus Freitasoxyascaris was established by Gomes and Motta (1967) with Freitasoxyascaris travassosi from the large intestine of Thoropa miliaris from Manguinhos, Rio de Janeiro, Guanabara, Brazil, as the type. Later, Baker (1980) synonymized Freitasoxyascaris with Aplectana. To my knowledge, this species has not subsequently been reported from other hosts. Forty-three additional specimens were detected in the large intestine of Leptodactylus mystaceus (Spix, 1824) collected at Santa Cecilia, Napo Province, Ecuador. The discovery of additional specimens made possible a more detailed description of this species. A revision of Old World species of Aplectana, a summary of New World species, and a key were provided by Baker (1980).
