The present research work called and academic performance in 8th, 9th and 10th year students of basic education of the San Jose de Calasanz fiscomisional educational unit of the Saraguro canton and the intervention of the social worker, shows the results obtained In the field research, fulfilling the specific objectives, which allowed to theoretically argue the study variables, identify the levels of academic performance of the students, analyze causes and consequences that migration influences on academic performance, to formulate a proposal such as alternative solution whose purpose is to improve the level of academic performance and self-esteem of students. The methodology used in the present investigation was based on the application of the scientific method, supported by its other inductive, deductive, analytical, and synthetic methods, which allowed direct contact with the object of study, the techniques used were : Observation, surveys and semi-structured interview, which allowed us to address the problem and be clear about how the migration of parents influences the academic performance of students. The population that was considered was a non-probability sampling for convenience, which was 30 students, children of migrant parents, their legal representatives, teachers and staff from the Department of Student Counseling (DECE). The results obtained reflect that the migration of parents has a negative influence on the students, preventing them from developing adequately, both personally and academically, and it was also determined that the students have unsatisfactory academic performance, which is It is between regular and good, the main causes that trigger migration are the helplessness in which the children remain when their parents migrate, legal representatives with lack of responsibility and control, the consequences are carefree and abandonment of studies, family disintegration and social problems, altering the behavioral, emotional, psychosocial and affective part of the student, which becomes a barrier to adequately cope within their different social, cultural and educational fields. The intervention of the social worker is essential in the educational field, among its functions is the promotion, detection and prevention of any type of situation that poses a risk to the student. That is why the formulation of a proposal was considered important as an alternative solution, aimed at improving the academic performance and self-esteem of student’s children of migrant parents, which includes theoretical and practical activities with both the students and their legal representatives. on values, motivation, interpersonal relationships, affectivity, migratory processes, family reunions and group therapies.
