Resumen
The aim of this study was to describe the clinical and socio-demographic characteristics of grieves attended at a mental health surgery. An original sample of 61 patients was obtained from all those subjects over 16 years old who claimed help for symptoms related to death of a significant figure during the last two years before the consult. Data for this study were collected during a year. Fifty five participants ended the study. A semistructed interview was administrated during an hour and a half to collect data according to protocol done for this matter, afterwich patients were rated following the next scales and interviews: Texas Revised Inventory (TRIG); Inventory of Complicated Grief (ICG); General Inventory (TRIG); General Health Questionary of Goldberg (GHQ-28); The Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression; and the Beck Depression Inventory. The mean GHQ score was 14, clearly pathologic; moderate rates of depression and anxiety. Grief symptoms were highly intense and 62% had evidence of complicated grief. Fathers´ loss caused the most number of consults although partners´ loss had much more clinical repercussion. A shock stage longer than two weeks or a strong initial reaction, rated with the TRIG I subscale was followed afterwards by complicated evolution. Even though anxiety and depressive syndromes appear during grief process, they seem to be different of grief, developing in different evolutions and requiring different approachments.
