Resumen
Ecology faces novel challenges in the environmental decision-making context. From inside the natural sciences\nthemselves, the science of complexity opens new epistemological perspectives towards social-natural systems; in this\npaper we reflect upon different ways of understanding complexity. Some examples illustrate the following idea: if complexity\nis understood as a consequence of the intrinsic relationship between science and values, it might be possible to look for\ncommon ground between some form of reflexive science and local problems.
