Effects of the excess body iron on the health ABSTRACT: Excess body iron may result hemosiderosis (an increase in tissue iron without alteration of tissue structure or function), or hemochromatosis (in wich tissue is demaged). An abundance of iron in the tissue indicate in excess of the capacity of de body to excrete. Excessive absorption of ingeste iron can take place in two situations. 1) It can occur when there is an abnormality of the control mechanism for the intestinal absorption of iron, and far more is asorbed than the body requires. (Hemochromatosis). 2) Excessive absorption can also occur when an otherwise normal individual has an iron intake so great that it overwhelms the regulation system of absortion. (Hemosiderosis).
