Resumen

Over the last few decades, the city of Machala has experienced a shift in its migrant population profile. While Ecuador has historically been a country of emigrants, the Venezuelan crisis led to a significant influx of international migrants starting in 2015. This phenomenon has raised concerns regarding how migration has influenced labor dynamics. Consequently, the main objective of this research is to analyze the relationship between employment and migration in Machala during the 2010-2024 period.Following the methodology proposed by Hernández Sampieri et al. (2016), this study adopts a quantitative approach with a descriptive level and a longitudinal scope. A deductive method was employed, moving from a theoretical framework to the analysis of the local reality. The research findings evidence a dual effect: migration has stimulated the economy while simultaneously increasing informal employment, indicating that migrants integrate under disadvantageous labor conditions. In conclusion, migration represents a challenge for the diversification of the local economy and highlights the need to formulate inclusive and differentiated public policies for the city of Machala.
