Since 2002 onwards, the Colombian government begins to develop and implement a series of policies aimed to combat iIlegal armed groups and general manifestations of violence across the country. Since 2000 had been implemented Plan Colombia, supported by the United States, to which is added the Democratic Security policy, formulated by the government of Alvaro Uribe (2002-2010) whose main purpose was to combat the threat posed by insurgent groups and other iIlegal armed groups. While it is true that the actions that were made in the field of Democratic Security policy succeeded in reducing crime rates and violence within the country, also is true that sectors of the civilian population in the border areas were affected, often found in many case in the middle of the military actions, many of them were displaced either within the country or across borders into neighboring countries. The concentraron of military action in the south of the country meant that a significant number of Colombians had to take refuge in Ecuador. Finally within this framework, it was concluded that the Colombian armed conflict became the main factor of migration of Colombians to Ecuador, but also, there were determinants political, social and geographical factors that allowed understand why Colombians decided to immigrate to that country.
