Resumen

In this work, the electrical resistivity method was used to identify possible areas of contamination due to an open-air municipal landfill, located in Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The study was carried out with the purpose of determining the presence and zone of influence of the leachate generated by landfill towards the surroundings of their location point. Like this, establish the direction of the leachate flow, according to the data of the geography of the study area, towards surrounding areas. such as lagoons and/or groundwater bodies. Results of 2D inversion at carried put profiles showed zones of low resistivity that indicate the influence of the leachate plume, with preferential migration towards groundwater derived from the stratigraphy that favors its runoff. The VES results showed a localized water table depth less than 10 m deep, with the leachate plume flowing in a northeasterly direction. These results show the importance and potential of electrical resistivity methods in the identification of leachate migration based on vertical electrical soundings, as well as, the choice of suitable land to act as dumps, according to its stratigraphy.
