Resumen

This essay analyzes the migratory phenomenon in Canada from two fundamental theories: the theory of the system-world and the theory of migration in international political economy, in the period 2021-2022. According to the world-system theory, migration is interpreted as a consequence of economic inequality and exploitation in peripheral countries. It explains how migration to Canada, a country at the center of the world system, is largely a result of the need of peripheral economies to meet their labor demand and compensate for their production deficits; while migrant workers in turn seek to improve their economic and social conditions. The theory of international political economy argues that migration is a process deeply rooted in the structure of the global capitalist system, and that it takes place within the framework of an asymmetric relationship between countries of origin and destination. Explains how the Canadian migration system is designed to attract highly skilled workers and how this has an impact on the migration dynamics in the region. In this context, it discusses how migration has become a key issue for the Canadian economy and how the country has successfully integrated migrant workers into its society. It concludes that the migration phenomenon of Canada is complex and rooted in a variety of factors, including the dynamics of the world system and international political economy as well as Canadian politics and culture. Highlights the challenges and opportunities facing Canada in terms of its future as a host country for migrants.
