Absenteeism is an absence of worker when was expect to attend; it is attribute to different causes such as medical and not medical. Are causing production losses, economic and effect the work environment. The aim of investigation was to identify characteristics of absenteeism of health workers of the Red Norte in 2013 by characterizing sociodemographic, occupational and likewise absenteeism. Methodology: descriptive retrospective study of absenteeism in health workers of the Red Norte in the Cali - Valle city, with the participation of 183 people of the health area of which 93 was absenteeism during 2013. The instrument used was a statistics spreadsheet for data collection. Results: it was found that female gender was 74,8% of absenteeism and were nursing assistants who contributed the most with 52,2% (856 hours), having as origin inability with 69,4% (1934 hours) and 74,2% belonged to the area of external consultation with a employment relationship as associated. Frequency and severity rates are higher on nursing assistants, female gender and external consultation area working 8 hours day with the difference in index with greater severity for gerontologist.Conclusions: the gender, the working hours, the employment relationship, the medical cause as inability and the work area are associated to high levels of absenteeism in the health workers.
