Migración interregional en Chile: Una Perspectiva Espacial

Resumen

Este trabajo estudia la migracion interregional para Chile usando datos agregados y tomando especial consideracion de la autocorrelacion espacial asociada a las regiones de origen y destino. Un modelo espacial es adaptado y estimado para datos chilenos para los periodos 1987-1992 y 1997-2002. Los resultados muestran que existe una significativa autocorrelacion espacial en las regiones de origen y destino del proceso migratorio. Adicionalmente, los resultados muestran que ignorar la autocorrelacion espacial en el proceso de estimacion tendra como consecuencia una subestimacion de los efectos de las variables sobre la probabilidad de migrar. Esto es especialmente importante parala variable nivel de poblacion de la region de origen y destino y sus implicancias sobre el proceso de concentracion que ocurre en torno a las regiones del centro del pais.The paper study the Chilean interregional migration using aggregate data and taking into account the spatial autocorrelation that is associated to origin and destination regions. A spatial model is tailored and estimatedfor Chilean data for periods 1987-1992 and 1997-2002. The results show that there is a significant spatial autocorrelation at the origin and destination region in the migration process. In addition, the results shows that ignoring the spatial autocorrelation in the estimation process will lead to an underestimation of the effects of the variables on theprobability to migrate, this is especially important for the variable population at origin and destination region and its implication over the concentration process around the central regions.
