Resumen
The implementation of competency-based teaching in primary education in Ecuador is an approach that seeks to improve educational quality and prepare students to face the challenges of the 21st century. This study focuses on systematizing the theoretical and methodological foundations that support this methodology, analyzing how competencies influence the comprehensive development of students. A descriptive study was conducted with recent academic literature, covering 22 relevant studies on competency-based teaching in the Ecuadorian context. The results indicate that competency-based teaching fosters skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration, essential aspects for meaningful learning. By implementing a competency-based curriculum, it is observed that students develop greater autonomy in their educational process, which in turn improves their motivation and attitude towards learning. In addition, cooperative work and project-based learning are key strategies that allow students to interact and learn actively, strengthening their self-efficacy and self-esteem. Therefore, the implementation of competency-based teaching in primary education is essential to promote an inclusive and dynamic educational environment that favors the academic and personal development of students
