Increasing access to comprehensive cleft lip and/or palate care in Colombia
Crossref
Resumen
Cleft lip and palate are the most common congenital cranial malformations. They occur in about 1.7 of every 1000 live births. Although it is likely to be under-reported, it is estimated that the prevalence of this condition in Colombia is 3.27 per 10,000 inhabitants. Comprehensive care for these malformations requires multiple interventions by a specialized multidisciplinary team from pregnancy through adulthood. Ideally, these services should be organized around the patient's needs and provided by an interdisciplinary team of experts located in the same place who communicate directly with each other to make decisions together.
